FA Trophy round-up: Ashford knock out Herne Bay, Sittingbourne beat Faversham Town, penalty shoot-out wins for Deal Town and VCD Athletic

Three second-half goals saw Ashford United defeat Herne Bay in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

The first qualifying round tie was all-square at the break but goals from Louis Collins, Jefferson Aibangbee and new signing Rodney Eruotor in an 18-minute spell at the start of the second half proved decisive.

Tashi-Jay Kwayie’s late goal wasn’t enough for Faversham Town in their Swale derby at Sittingbourne.

A goal in either half from Harvey Smith and debutant Emmanuel Robe was enough to send the Brickies through to the next round.

Having played each other so much in recent seasons, it was perhaps no surprise that there was nothing between ErIth Town and Deal Town in 90 minutes.

The sides played out a 1-1 draw at Bayliss Avenue as Ben Chapman’s opener for Deal was cancelled out by Erith’s Emmanuel Oluwasemo’s penalty. Deal then went through after winning the shoot-out 4-3.

Margate’s second-half comeback wasn’t enough as they went out 4-2 at Westfield.

A disastrous first 45 minutes saw Ben Greenhalgh’s men trail 3-0 at the break.

Manolis Gogonas, Kiye Martin and Aderi Dede put the hosts in charge. Kieron Agbebi pulled one back early in the second half and fellow substitute Kane Haysman set up a grandstand finale by netting with six minutes to go.

But Devonte Swack scored deep into stoppage time to confirm Margate’s fate.

VCD went through on penalties after a goalless draw at home to Rayners Lane, the Vickers winning 5-4 on spot-kicks.
