Experts issue warning to Brits to look out for these key signs of bedbugs in homes
Your bed is your safe place. Arguably the best way to end a day is to crawl up inside your clean sheets, lay your head on your fluffy pillow and unwind after a long day.
But that safe place can very quickly become a not-so-safe place if unwanted pests decide to call it their home.
Now the thought of discovering a bed bug infestation in your room is enough to make anyone's skin crawl. But luckily, there are clear signs to look out for and steps you can take if the worst case scenario occurs.
Experts at Bed Kingdom have issued seven key warning signs that homeowners and renters should be aware of, as well as what to do if you spot these pesky critters.
One early red flag to look out for is an odd, musty scent in your bedroom - with no apparent source.
The experts at Bed Kingdom advised: "When bed bugs feel threatened, they emit what is called alarm pheromones which have a faint smell of raspberries, cilantro, or almonds – and in severe bed bug cases, this smell we be mixed with the odour of dead bugs and shed cell casings which creates a rusty scent."
Waking up with red, itchy bites could indicate the presence of bed bugs, who typically feed on blood during the night. Keep an eye out for bites on arms, hands and legs in particular. These will usually be in small clusters, but there may also be single bites.
The experts continued: "These bites are not usually dangerous, but some people can be allergic – so if you experience extreme itchiness, swelling, blisters, or a fever it's crucial to seek help from a medical professional."
