Experienced lock Treadwell signs new Ulster deal

Ireland lock Kieran Treadwell has become the latest player to put pen to paper on a new deal with Ulster, prolonging his stay with the province until 2026.

After securing the services of Rob Herring and Nick Timoney for two further seasons, Dan McFarland's side have enlisted Irish international Treadwell for three more campaigns.

The English-born lock, who qualifies through his Irish mother, earned his first international cap in 2017 but has only properly established himself within the squad in 2022, scoring his first Ireland try against Italy in the Six Nations and featuring in all five games in the triumphant summer tour of New Zealand.

Treadwell, just shy of his 27th birthday, began his senior rugby career with Harlequins, spending a loan stint at London Scottish, before signing for Ulster ahead of the 2016-17 season.

"I'm really excited to have signed on again with Ulster," Treadwell said, upon signing the deal.

"This group is full of talent and we all have the same goal in mind. I can’t wait to see how far we can go as a squad."

Head Coach Dan McFarland told the Ulster Rugby website: "Kieran has worked very hard over the last few years to develop as a player. His explosive qualities have always been apparent, but he has added a significant set piece element to his game that has been recognised in his deserved selections for the Ireland team.

"I look forward to him continuing to improve in the years ahead, and for that to pay dividends when it comes to what we’re aiming for as a squad."
