Sheffield Wednesday beat Wimbledon right at the death

Barry Bannan has been crowned the League One player of the month for March. The Sheffield Wednesday captain beat off strong competition from Milton Keynes Dons’ Harry Darling, Cheltenham Town's Alfie May and Plymouth Argyle midfielder Danny Mayor to land the prize.

It is the first time an Owls player has claimed an English Football League player of the month award in seven years. Wide man Ross Wallace won it on that occasion.

Bannan contributed three goals and two assists last month as Wednesday climbed back into the play-off performances. The 32-year-old has thrived since manager Darren Moore pushed him into a more advanced position. His stellar form in midfield also saw him nominated for the February player of the month award.
