Ex-Man City star's son in furious bust-up with rival after chaotic Olympics 2024 5000m race

Team GB athlete George Mills was in a heated confrontation with another competitor after a collision in the final stages of men's 5000m race at the Paris Olympics.

After tumbling to the track during the last 100m amidst clashing legs, Mills - the son of former Manchester City and England defender Danny - had to stand and trudge across the finish, visibly livid, as he exchanged words with French runner Hugo Hay following his race that concluded in frustration.

Former Team GB marathon runner Paula Radcliffe commented: "There's a lot to look back at, I lot to tidy up and decide whose fault it was. If you decide to jog that slightly, it's kind of your own fault. You end up with all of those falls."

While commentator Steve Cram remarked: "Paula's right to some extent, with the exception of Nordas most have got themselves to blame. George was in a bad position from a long way out and should have checked out much earlier."

"From what I can see there, George did push in the home straight, it will be interesting to see what they do there. I go back to what Paula said, there are lots of experienced men. And yes everyone thinks they can kick, but when you get to that situation the chances of going down increase dramatically."

"George Mills has done this so many times, he doesn't put himself in the best of positions," added former Team GB athlete Allison Curbishley during a BBC Radio 5 Live broadcast. "You are always going to get yourself caught up when there's too many people."
