Everything we know about Old Trafford development as Manchester United plan takes shape

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is already making an impact at Manchester United following his takeover of the club.

United received approval from the Premier League for the takeover earlier this week. The club have been heavily linked with a move for Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth and there has been updates regarding a redevelopment of Old Trafford.

The Telegraph reported earlier this month that Ratcliffe wants to create the ‘Wembley of the North’ with plans around United’s home. There have been well-publicised problems with the leaking roof and other situations that need fixing. It remains to be seen what changes will be made to the stadium in both the short and long term following the INEOS takeover but the new owners are showing their intent in good early signs.

With that in mind, here is a round-up of everything we know so far about the potential redevelopment to Old Trafford and the surrounding area.

It was announced by Trafford Council on Friday that "ambitious" plans are being put in place to regenerate the area around Old Trafford. The update comes just days after Ineos Group and Ratcliffe's 25 per cent takeover of United was officially approved by the Premier League.

The announcement from the council will see the area around Old Trafford regenerated in the years to come, and could lead to redevelopment of the stadium itself. MEN Sport understands though, that renovation of the 75,000-capacity stadium could prove difficult due to the nearby railway line.
