Every Liverpool player sold under Brendan Rodgers and what happened next

The Brendan Rodgers era at Liverpool was a rollercoaster of emotions.

The current Leicester boss brought an exciting and exhilarating style of football to Anfield, and it seemed he would finally end the club’s Premier League title drought only for the Reds to fall at the final hurdle.

At the heart of his side was the exciting pairing of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge and Rodgers was a busy man in the transfer market in his three years at the club between 2012 and 2015.

According to LFC History , Rodgers sold 23 Liverpool players, and we have looked at them in more detail.

Dirk Kuyt

The Dutch striker was signed as a goal-scoring forward but carved a niche out as an industrious attacker that was never afraid to put a shift in. He was sold to Fenerbahce for £1million where he won the Turkish League, the Turkish Cup and the Turkish Super Cup.

After three seasons in Turkey he moved back to former club Feyenoord where he helped the Rotterdam club secure an unlikely league title in 2016/17. After two seasons at De Kuip he rounded out his career in amateur football with a brief stint at Quick Boys in the fourth tier of Dutch football.

Maxi Rodriguez

The Argentine midfielder was a solid if not spectacular investment by Rafa Benitez. He spent two years at Anfield before heading back to his homeland to join Newell’s Old Boys in July 2012.

He then moved on to Penarol in Uruguay, where he won two league titles, before returning to Newell’s Old Boys where he retired last year.

Alberto Aquilani

The Italian midfielder had a forgettable spell at Anfield and was quietly sold back to Serie A with Fiorentina for £7m.

What followed was a nomadic career that saw him take in spells with Fiorentina, Sporting CP, Pescara, Sassuolo
