Mauricio Pochettino advised against becoming Manchester United's next manager

Former Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock insists he would not consider taking over as Manchester United's next permanent manager if he found himself in Mauricio Pochettino's shoes.

The Paris Saint-Germain head coach, who has previously almost seven years managing in England, at both Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur, is understood to be one of the frontrunners to replace current interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News back in November, Pochettino was keen on leaving PSG and taking over at Old Trafford mid-season, highlighting his desire to return to England.

Despite that, Warnock, who has enjoyed a successful managerial career of his own further down the English football ladder, believes the Argentine should avoid succeeding Rangnick, instead suggesting that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers would be the ideal fit.

"I think it is a massive job," Warnock told talkSPORT. "If I was Pochettino, I wouldn't think about coming to Man United.

"The only person I can think of now, which I never thought about, is Brendan Rodgers. I think he would possibly be a good move, because I think Brendan is realising how difficult it is at Leicester as well, and I think it could be a good time to change over.

"I think Brendan does deal with these stars."

Rodgers was sounded out as a potential candidate to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford back in November, but Leicester's recent troubles have all but ended the possibility of that happening.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News last week, Rodgers' future at the King Power Stadium is understood to be under threat following a string of poor results, including last weekend's shock 4-1 FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest.
