Everton: Lampard handed 'real bonus' over £71m trio at Goodison Park

Everton manager Frank Lampard has been handed a ‘real bonus’ in the form of his midfield unit of Idrissa Gueye, Amadou Onana and Alex Iwobi at Goodison Park, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Lampard was handed more than £70 million to bolster his squad during the summer transfer window and two of those recruits have started to make a real impact.

The Toffees have now won two games in a row in the Premier League, following up their 1-0 triumph over West Ham by beating Southampton 2-1 on the south coast.

It was a result that stretched the club’s unbeaten run to six top-flight games and took them up to 11th in the table, four points clear of the relegation zone.

Gueye returned to Goodison Park this summer from Paris Saint-Germain after a £3.6 million fee was agreed, joining Onana after his £33 million transfer from Lille.

The duo have made up a unit alongside Iwobi, who has been transformed into a midfielder by Lampard this season following his £34 million move from Arsenal.

The Chelsea legend has previously praised the 26-year-old’s running capacity within games as well as his passing awareness.

Jones believes that Lampard has hit the jackpot with his current midfield options, with Gueye, Onana and Iwobi forming an impressive unit.

The journalist adds that the players complement each other well and have the potential to get even better.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I think they really complement each other and that’s been a real bonus for Lampard coming into this job. There’s big potential for them.”
