Everton: Lampard 'wisely managing' £72k-a-week star at Goodison Park

Everton are currently ‘wisely managing’ the fitness of striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as he continues his recovery from injury at Goodison Park, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Frank Lampard has overseen an impressive patch of form as Toffees manager and recently welcomed one of his star men back to Premier League action.

The 25-year-old made his first appearance for Everton this season when he came off the bench for the final 14 minutes of their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday night.

It came after Calvert-Lewin – who has previously been described as ‘brilliant’ – suffered a knee injury in training ahead of the opening day of the season which kept him sidelined for eight top-flight matches.

After the final whistle in their clash with United, Lampard revealed that the club were now going to be ‘careful’ with their talisman.

The former Chelsea boss added that they are looking ‘long-term’ and are eager to get him back to a level of fitness where he can affect games.

This weekend sees Everton face Tottenham and, in his pre-match press conference, Lampard said he ‘would see’ how Calvert-Lewin – who the club value at £60 million – faired over the coming days.

Phillips understands that Everton are continuing to manage Calvert-Lewin’s situation very carefully following his return from injury.

The journalist adds that the club are determined to ensure the £72,000 per-week star is at full fitness by the time he is trusted to start regularly again.

Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: “They are managing him at the moment. After a long spell out and then another small setback when he did return, they are wisely managing his return to the field to make sure he is completely ready and set to go.”
