Everton in 'pole position' to sign £15m star at Goodison Park

Everton are “probably in pole position” to sign Southampton striker Che Adams, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The Scotland international is attracting attention from several Premier League clubs, but Taylor reckons the Merseysiders are currently leading the race for his signature.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton have ‘made a move’ to sign Adams, although they face stiff competition from Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Leeds.

Forest’s interest in the striker might have cooled following the arrival of Emmanuel Dennis and potential signing of Neal Maupay at the City Ground, but Everton still have a fight on their hands to bring him to Goodison Park.

This comes after The Athletic claimed that Southampton were willing to allow Adams to leave, with Ralph Hasenhuttl responding to those reports by leaving him on the bench against Tottenham on the opening day.

He would return to action eight days later in the draw with Leeds, but Adams’ St Mary’s future is far from resolved, although talkSPORT recently reported that Saints now have ‘no plans’ to sell him.

Taylor is staggered that Southampton would consider letting Adams move on but reckons that Everton are at the front of the queue to sign him.

He told GIVEMESPOT: “I find it astounding that he may leave Southampton, but I’m not sure Leeds will be his destination, I think that Everton are probably in pole position on that front.”

Given their state at the top end of the pitch, Adams would certainly bolster Frank Lampard’s options.

Currently, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out injured and isn’t expected to return for more than a month, while Richarlison left for Tottenham earlier this summer.
