Everton fans will ‘really appreciate’ £30m star at Goodison Park
Everton fans will ‘really appreciate’ the defensive work that Idrissa Gana Gueye does upon his return to the club, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The 32-year-old arrived from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day following protracted negotiations and will be hoping to help steer the Toffees up the Premier League table.
Gueye enjoyed a successful three-year spell with Everton between 2016 and 2019 before PSG snapped him up in a £30 million deal.
The Senegal international enjoyed success at the Parc des Princes before dropping down the pecking order and now claims to be delighted that he has come ‘back home’ this summer.
“There is no better feeling than coming back home,” said Gueye. “I am very happy to be here at Everton again, to help and to work hard – I’ll give my soul to this team.
“Coming back here was important to me because I feel like I’m in my home. I’ve followed the team every week and watched how they play. For me, there is no better place than Everton, so that’s why I chose to come back here.”
Gueye will compete with fellow summer signings Amadou Onana and James Garner for a starting berth in Everton’s midfielder, giving manager Frank Lampard plenty of options.
O’Rourke believes that the Everton faithful will take to Gueye once again, labelling him a ‘great defensive midfielder’ who is not afraid to do the ‘dirty work’.
In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “He was a big fan’s favourite during his first spell, so I’m sure he will be this time around as well.
“He’s a great defensive midfielder with great energy and likes to do the dirty work in midfield, which I’m sure the Everton fans will really appreciate.”
Gueye made 111 appearances for PSG across all competitions, racking up 13 goal
