Evangelos Marinakis will not repeat Norwich and Watford mistakes after Nottingham Forest promotion

Evangelos Marinakis has no intention of seeing Nottingham Forest relegated from the Premier League as he prepares to back Steve Cooper in the transfer market.

Marinakis told thousands of supporters it is time for a new era of success in Market Square yesterday after the Reds secured promotion at Wembley on Sunday. Teams who go up via the play-offs are often tipped to struggle, but last season Brentford thrived as Norwich and Watford floundered after automatic promotion.

BT Sport commentator and Reds fan Darren Fletcher believes Forest will take a much different approach to the latter two teams with Marinakis able to use his wealth and connections to strengthen manager Steve Cooper's hand.

Speaking on the Garibaldi Red podcast, he said: "Why wouldn't he (go for it)? The amount of money he's put in from his own bank account just to keep Forest going in the Championship, why would you not as a Premier League club not have a go?

"He's not in it to be in the Championship. He wants to own a Premier League club, which he now does. He's had real success with Olympiacos getting into the Champions League every season.

"If you think about the players who have come from that club to the Premier League, Sa at Wolves is a very good goalkeeper, Tsimikas would play at Liverpool if it wasn't for Andy Robertson and Daniel Podence is a very good player for Wolves. Those three players, you wonder had Forest been a Premier League club, would they have come to the City Ground?
