Erling Haaland breaks Manchester United hero’s record with Man City hat-trick vs Fulham

Erling Haaland has become the quickest Premier League player to reach 50 goal contributions, breaking the previous record held by Andy Cole.

The Manchester City goal machine has registered 42 goals and nine assists in 39 appearances, four fewer than United hero Cole’s feat. Haaland’s 70th-minute penalty in Saturday’s 5-1 win over Fulham saw him reach the landmark.

The Norway star had grabbed his first of the game 12 minutes earlier after supplying Julian Alvarez for City’s opener, before completing his hat-trick in added time. It means he sits on five goals for the season in four Premier League matches.

Haaland broke Cole’s top-flight goals record last season with his 36 goals, and ended up with an astonishing 52 goals in 53 matches in all competitions.

Reacting to Haaland breaking his record earlier this year, Cole said: "My record is seen as nothing because someone has broken it - but Haaland can't be greater than the first person who set the record.

"It's like Neil Armstrong who was the first man who landed on the moon. He was the greatest because he was the first man to do it. You can't be greater than the first individual who set those standards.”

Haaland is favourite to land the Golden Boot again, with odds being slashed amid the exit of Harry Kane to the Bundesliga. His hat-trick against Fulham was his seventh Treble in a City shirt having only signed 16 months ago.

Haaland has also shown his ability to link up with teammates to set up goals too. He ended last season with nine assists and is off the mark this term thanks to his tee-up for fellow striker Alvarez this weekend.
