Women's Premier Division wrap: Peamount keep up pace

Peamount United tightened their grip on top spot in the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division with a 3-0 win at DLR Waves on Saturday.

The breakthrough came three minutes before the break when Becky Watkins' deflected shot found the net.

On 59 minutes, Ellen Dolan slotted a cool finish past Eve Bandana to double the Peas' lead, and the points were sealed 15 minutes from time when Karen Duggan turned home a Watkins shot.

Shelbourne, who are six points behind Peamount in second place, had to work hard for a 2-1 victory against Athlone Town at Tolka Park.

They took the lead through Noelle Murray after 18 minutes but Athlone hit back eight minutes later thanks to Maddison Gibson.

Morgan Rees restored Shels' advantage in the 42nd minute and they saw it out to keep their title push alive.

Shamrock Rovers aren't out of the equation either. They are three points behind Shelbourne with a game in hand after a 4-0 win at Cork City.

It was scoreless at half-time, but once Joy Ralph broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, the floodgates opened. Abbie Larkin, Stephanie Zambra and Melissa O'Kane tagged on further efforts to give the Hoops an important victory.

Elsewhere Bohemians and Galway United played out a nil-nil draw at Dalymount Park. The result means they stay in fourth and fifth place respectively.
