Erik ten Hag to Man Utd: Which players should he sell and keep?
Erik ten Hag is reportedly set to become the new manager of Manchester United.
ESPN reported on Wednesday that the Ajax boss will become United’s new boss at the end of the season.
It will bring to an end the Red Devils’ search for a permanent manager, with interim boss Ralf Rangnick giving the green light to appoint Ten Hag.
The 52-year-old was on a four-man shortlist that also included Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui.
That list was whittled down to just Ten Hag and Pochettino, but Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League collapse helped convince United to pursue the Ajax coach.
He will inherit a rather disjointed squad that ultimately hasn’t performed well this season. There is some quality in the side but Ten Hag will ring the changes in a big way, getting rid of those that don’t fit into his plans and bringing new blood in.
Ten Hag will already have a view of what his United squad will look like for next season, but here at GiveMeSport we’ve done half of the job for him.
We’ve run our eyes through United’s entire squad and listed whether Ten Hag should keep, sell or loan the players he will inherit.
Some of the decisions were obvious but the majority were incredibly tough, which perhaps shows how unconvincing this United squad is.
David de Gea – Keep
Lee Grant – Release
Tom Heaton – Keep
Dean Henderson – Sell
The decision really is whether United should go with De Gea or Henderson next season.
The Spaniard has been one of their best players this season, though, and now is the time to cash in on Henderson.
Heaton will be a fine backup option for Ten Hag.
Victor Lindelof – Keep
Eric Bailly – Sell
Phil Jones – Sell
Harry Maguire – Keep
Raphael Varane – Keep
Diogo Dalot – Keep
Luke Shaw – Keep
