Erik ten Hag: The 10 players Man Utd should sign this summer

Manchester United are striding into a new era in their illustrious history.

With Thursday’s confirmation that Erik ten Hag is their new manager, the Red Devils can really start planning how they want to rebuild their squad to try and return to the greatness of old.

And there’s good reason to think that substantial changes will be made to the United dressing room over the summer with wholesale departures and arrivals tipped for the Old Trafford club.

In fact, you only have to look at Ralf Rangnick’s damning comments on the back of the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday to get an idea about how significant the turnover of players might be.

According to Sky Sports, United’s interim coach said at Anfield: “If you analyse the situation it is not difficult to analyse. For me, it is clear there will be six, seven, eight, maybe ten new players.”

Pretty eye-catching, right? Well, so much so, in fact, that we wanted to imagine how Rangnick’s comments might actually play out in real life.

As such, we set about the unenviable task of naming the 10 players that United should buy this summer if they did indeed pursue the most extreme end of Rangnick’s recent assessment.

Obviously, 10 signings is a considerable amount, so it was important that we put our sensible hats on and didn’t choose a entire cohort of hugely-expensive and readymade superstars.

As much as we’d just like to casually reel off Declan Rice, Harry Kane and Pau Torres, the simple fact of the matter is that United will need to be shrewd if they make as many as 10 purchases.

So, bearing that in mind, we’ve aimed for a mixture of expensive top-class stars, affordable assets that would thrive under Ten Hag, general squad players and young prospects who could thrive further
