Erik ten Hag teases Roy Keane after Manchester United's late winner in Premier League opener

Roy Keane was jokingly put on the spot by Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag kicked off the new Premier League season with a narrow 1-0 victory against Fulham.

After an underwhelming 87 minutes of play, the game looked to be heading towards a dull goalless draw until Red Devils newboy Joshua Zirkzee popped up off the bench to turn home a dramatic winning goal at Old Trafford. Dutchman ten Hag is in need of a strong start to the new campaign - despite leading the club to glory in the FA Cup last season, and narrowly avoided losing his job over the summer.

The former Ajax manager is not shy in biting back at pundits, having responded to comments by both Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher about his choice of tactics during United's dismal Premier League campaign last year where they finished eighth - their lowest position in the English top-flight since 1990.

Ex Red Devils and one-time Celtic midfielder Keane is known for his strong opinions, and has been highly critical of his old team in recent seasons. But the 53-year-old was quietly reserved when ten Tag appeared to talk to the Sky panel after the game. Poking fun at the Irishman, ten Hag quipped: You’re quiet! You don’t want to kill the vibes?” before Keane replied: “ Maybe next week!”
