Erik ten Hag sent Evan Ferguson transfer message amid Manchester United interest

Manchester United have been advised to only pursue Evan Ferguson if he fits into the system under Erik ten Hag - and not because Manchester City or other Premier League sides might want him.

Having brought in seven players this summer, United already have one eye on next year with the club hoping to make at least four key signings. Ferguson, 18, has been heavily mooted as one potential recruit and the Manchester Evening News understands key figures behind the scenes are monitoring the frontman.

Ferguson, who has six international caps to his name, is primed and ready to meet United when Brighton head to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon (3pm). He scored his first Premier League hat-trick for the Seagulls during their win over Newcastle United before the September international break.

He has, generally, earned rave reviews for his performances on the south coast since breaking into their first team. However, according to former United striker Louis Saha, that does not necessarily make him an ideal target.

Saha was pressed on the Brighton man during an interview with Betfred. He said: "Evan Ferguson is a very good player, and all the top teams need a number of high-quality forwards at their club if they're going to challenge for the biggest honours.

"As for Manchester United hijacking a move for Ferguson if Manchester City go for him, then I wouldn't agree with this approach as they should only move for players that have a real desire to move to Old Trafford. The strategy for United should be to focus on players
