Erik ten Hag might have to repeat Andre Onana Ajax decision at Manchester United
Erik ten Hag could never have imagined it would come to this. Twenty games into his Manchester United career, the goalkeeper who was supposed to be transformative to the way this team plays is under pressure for his place in the side.
It's hard to argue against the idea that Andre Onana deserves to be dropped for some of the mistakes he has made so far this season. Ten Hag has been ruthless with the way he's taken players out of the team at times and now he has to consider doing the same with his £47million goalkeeper.
Ten Hag knew what he was getting with Onana, having worked with him for five years at Ajax, but he dropped him towards the end of his reign in Amsterdam and now might have to do the same thing in Manchester. The story of the relationship between Ten Hag and Onana isn't as simple as it might look.

When the goalkeeper was banned for a drug offence in February 2021, he returned in November of that year but found himself on the bench until February 2022. Then he started seven games but by now had made it clear he would be leaving on a free transfer.
With reports in the Dutch press that Ten Hag was becoming exasperated by his form and fitness, he dropped the goalkeeper from the matchday squad for the KNVB Cup final against PSV Eindhoven. When he said Onana was injured in his pre-match TV interview, he was challenged three times on that claim and repeated himself three times. Onana would never play for Ajax again.
