Erik Ten Hag makes feelings clear on Man United 'crisis' amid boo brigade as boss told slump isn't a surprise

Erik Ten Hag reckons Man United are not in a 'crisis' and that the vociferous boos heard around Old Trafford can be explained.

The Dutchman is under increasing pressure after United were well beaten by Roberto De Zerbi's Brighton at home, with three goals in seventy minutes sealing a massive win for the Seagulls despite a late United response. It means the Red Devils have just two league wins to their name and sit in 13th place in the English Premier League. The former Ajax coach was the subject of the boo brigade after subbing off new star Rasmus Højlund when 2-0 down to replace with Anthony Martial.

But Ten Hag reckons there's an explanation for that toxic reaction, and that the notion his side are in something of a crisis is unfair given the premature nature of the season. He does admits to being annoyed with the chances his side squandered, but offered his squad the chance to turn it around.

Ten Hag said: “Crisis is not a fair word about where we are. This was not our day. But we have to be very disappointed and very annoyed with ourselves because at United the demand is you win games. Today, I saw we played well and if you analyse the first half it's crazy. We started well and created chances. On their second attack and with their first chance it’s in, but we have to do better.

“I think the booing was for Rasmus coming off not Martial, so I don't want to discuss that. Martial is not top fit yet but when he is he will contribute like he did last season. It was a good signal of support for Rasmus who had a good game."

But Gary Neville was not so complimentary of his former side, saying that it was that Brighton who dominated the game and that United got nowhere near them.
