Erik ten Hag has already been told he has Manchester United wildcard alternative to Antony

Southampton star Joe Aribo has already told Erik ten Hag he should show some faith in a young Manchester United forward this season ahead of the two teams meeting on Saturday.

United will be heading into the fixture with more confidence following the victory over Liverpool on Monday night - their first of the season. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford both found the back of the net as the Reds beat Jurgen Klopp's side 2-1.

Since the victory, Ten Hag has looked to strengthen his attacking options by preparing another bid for his former winger Antony. Despite Ten Hag looking elsewhere for an attacking threat, Aribo has previously spoken of his admiration for Amad.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Rangers where he played alongside Aribo before the Nigeria international moved to St Mary's. Speaking to Rangers TV about Amad in January, Aribo said: "It’s really good to see him.

"You can see that he’s a constant threat every single time he gets on the ball. He got on the scoresheet [against Ross County] so he’s getting his numbers and that’s so good to see."

Amad has already shown his capabilities to his new manager in pre-season. The forward came on as a substitute against Rayo Vallecano in the last friendly fixture of the summer and scored within minutes of his arrival.

Ten Hag is not against giving out-of-favour players an opportunity to impress. Anthony Martial was given a starring role in the squad during pre-season and he repaid the manager's faith before injury stopped him in his tracks.

Should Ten Hag fail to sign Antony, he may have to rely on his current options at the club and Amad's time to shine could be on the horizon.
