Erik ten Hag gets advice on Ruud van Nistelrooy amid claims he'll take his Man Utd job

Gordon Strachan believes Erik ten Hag is not viewing Ruud van Nistelrooy as his potential replacement at Manchester United and shouldn't fear his presence at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils boss added the former United hero to his backroom staff this summer after signing a two-year contract extension following his FA Cup final triumph against Manchester City last season.

Ten Hag's new deal came as a surprise to some after United's dire eighth-place finish in the Premier League with the club having scouted for potential replacements before deciding to remain with the Dutchman, who's set to enter his third season at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has since reshuffled his coaching staff with Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McLaren departing while former Go Ahead Eagles boss Rene Hake has become an assistant manager under the 54-year-old, alongside Van Nistelrooy.

Speaking to topoffshorecasinos.com, former United midfielder and Scotland boss Strachan sees no truth to the claims that Van Nistelrooy's appointment could see him groomed for the top spot, eventually replacing his compatriot.

‌"No, I don't think that Erik ten Hag will be looking at Ruud van Nistelrooy and thinking to himself that man wants my job," the Scotsman said. "You can't be looking over your shoulder as a manager, that's the last thing you would do. I think it would be far too obvious if the club are thinking about replacing Ten Hag with Ruud van Nistelrooy. It would be too transparent."
