Erik ten Hag delivers future verdict as Aston Villa warned ahead of Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has another tough test when Manchester United take on Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Dutch boss is under scrutiny for United's poor start to the season, having secured just seven points from their first six Premier League games. Despite scoring a last-gasp equaliser against FC Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night, United are yet to register a win in the competition.

"I’m not thinking about such issues because that is not a topic," Ten Hag said when questioned about his future after the game in Portugal. "We are in there together – the ownership, the leadership team, the staff. I appointed a new staff, we bought, again, new young players and we have to integrate them.

"And I know in top football you don’t get time, they have to perform immediately, but it’s not always realistic. We have more positions where we need time."

Villa boss Unai Emery meanwhile, has told his team to keep the pressure on under-fire United boss Ten Hag. Defeat against Villa, who are on a high after beating Bayern Munich in the Champions League, would send Ten Hag closer to the edge.

While Ten Hag's future is uncertain, Emery's stock could not be higher as he has led a remarkable turnaround at the midlands club. However, he does not want his players to "relax" after the landmark win over Bayern and wants to beat United.
