Erik ten Hag could have two Manchester United XIs next season with six summer signings

Though last summer marked a massively important juncture in Manchester United's resurrection, there is a feeling that this forthcoming summer's transfer window could be even more pivotal.

United, following the appointment of Erik ten Hag, drafted in five new permanent recruits last summer to get the Dutchman's rebuilding project underway. But though the club has made undisputed progress this term, they will be in need of adding fresh talent to their ranks once again to continue on an upward trajectory.

Though nothing is decided as of yet, United remain a strong bet to finish inside the top four and secure Champions League qualification for next season. That achievement alone will make recruitment much easier come the summer.

Ten Hag plans to be ruthless in shifting players out this summer and it is already common knowledge that he wants to strengthen his squad with an elite-level striker and a central-midfielder at the very least. The additions of a new goalkeeper, a new right-back and possibly a centre-back are not completely off the table, either.

If the Reds are to have genuine aspirations of launching a Premier League title charge next season, they do need to strengthen both their first XI and their squad overall. They have lacked sufficient depth in certain areas this season and that is what could be blamed on them having stumbled towards the finish line in recent weeks.
