England win Euro 2022: Leah Williamson's passionate interview after beating Germany

It’s official, football has finally come home.

After decades of hurt, an England team finally got to lift a piece of major international silverware at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

In front of a capacity crowd, Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses beat fierce rivals Germany 2-1 to win Euro 2022.

The host nation took the lead in the second half when Manchester United‘s Ella Toone cooly lofted the ball over Merle Frohms from Keira Walsh’s superb through ball.

Germany then fired back just 10 minutes before the end of the regulation 90 through Lina Magull and in truth, an equaliser was more than deserved.

However, it was England’s Chloe Kelly who was then the match winner on the day, the Manchester City forward grabbing her team’s all-important second goal in extra-time after coming on as a substitute.

It was the scrappiest of goals after Germany failed to clear a corner, but players and fans will not care about that one bit.

So England’s trophy drought, which stretched back all the way to 1966, is finally over and the scenes inside Wembley after victory was made official were just great to see.

Kelly ran off mid interview to sing Sweet Caroline with her teammates and the fans, while team captain Leah Williamson spoke very passionately in her on-pitch interview with the BBC.

A short clip of the Arsenal defender in front of the cameras has in fact gone viral on social media and after watching, it’s very easy to see why.
