England thrash Proteas women to clean sweep T20 series
England produced a clinical performance to clean sweep the T20 series 3-0 as an error-prone Proteas had no answers in the final T20 at Centurion on Saturday.
Chasing a mere 125 to win, the visitors easily chased the target to win by nine wickets in front of a disappointed Pretoria crowd.
England were strong from the start as the Proteas' inexperience with the ball was evident from the start once again.
A 56-run opening stand between Maia Bouchier and Danni Wyatt-Hodge got the tourists set before Ayanda Hlubi provided the only breakthrough with the scalp of Bouchier for 35.
Wyatt-Hodge brought up her second consecutive half-century as she struck an unbeaten 53 off 31 balls to see her side over the line with 51 balls remaining.
Without the reliable and experienced captain Laura Wolvaardt, who missed out due to illness, saw the Proteas stutter to 124 all out.
The Proteas top-order collapsed emphatically as the home side sat reeling at 45-5.
Nondumiso Shangase stood strong as she top-scored with a 35-ball 31 but wickets fell at regular intervals with spinner Charlie Dean taking three for 26.
The two teams will now contest in three ODIs, with the first ODI set on Wednesday in Kimberley (14:00).
Scores in brief:
South Africa 124 all out in 20 (Shangase 31, Luus 21, Dean 3/26, Bell 2/24)
England 128-1 in 11.3 (Wyatt-Hodge 53*, Bouchier 35, Hlubi 1/19)
Result: England won by 9 wickets
