England's Joe Root has moved up the all-time list of Test centurions

Joe Root inched up the all-time list of Test centurions No 25 – one ahead of Greg Chappell, Viv Richards, Mohammad Yousuf, Kane Williamson and David Warner, and level with Inzamam-ul-Haq.

The only player with 26 Test hundreds was in the stands at Kensington Oval: Garfield Sobers.

Since the start of 2021, Root has dealt clinically with his old problem of not converting half-centuries into three figures.

In the 12 Test innings in which he has reached 50, he has scored 100 on eight occasions.

In that time, Root has scored 2,018 Test runs. Next on the list is Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant – on 1,077.

Root now has five hundreds against West Indies, one short of the England record, held jointly by Colin Cowdrey, Allan Lamb, Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook.

Dan Lawrence now has four Test fifties, each made in a different country: Sri Lanka, India, England and Barbados.
