Ebbsfleet United manager Josh Wright says FA Cup first round trip to League 2 Grimsby Town holds no fear for his National League South side
Ebbsfleet manager Josh Wright has his sights set on another FA Cup upset this weekend.
The Fleet knocked out National League Solihull Moors at Stonebridge Road to set up a first-round trip to League 2 Grimsby.
It’s a tough ask for Wright’s men to bridge a two-division gap away from home, but he insists they’ve got every chance of progressing.
“Every side’s beatable,” stated the Fleet boss. “We’ve proven it against a level above already. This is another level above that, and it’s away from home, but our plan will be to win.
“The FA Cup throws up all sorts of results, right the way through, so we’ve got a big eye on the second round.
“I’m excited and the players are excited. We’ve had to put it to the back burner a little bit because we’ve had some big league games.
“But I’m really chomping at the bit to go there and get a result.”
Wright also stated that Ebbsfleet’s achievement to reach the first round of the FA Cup shouldn’t be underestimated.
They’ve had to come through three qualifying rounds so far, beating Ashford Town (Middx) and Faversham Town before brushing aside Solihull.
“We’ve had to win three games, and regardless of who we play, two of them lower divisions but one of them higher divisions, so it balances itself out,” said Wright
“But a football game’s a football game. As I said to you, we can go and beat Grimsby if we’re at our very best, and we maybe catch them slightly off guard or whatever that might be.
“That could have happened to us in the first three rounds. We’ve won three football games to get to Grimsby away, and it’s a good achievement, but I want a great achievement by going to get into the second round.
“We know it’s going to be a really tough test, there’s no denying that. It’s going to be a
