Ebbsfleet United’s transfer embargo lifted after less than a fortnight as club pay HMRC bill

Ebbsfleet have had their transfer embargo lifted by the National League after less than a fortnight.

Chief executive Damian Irvine told supporters in his programme notes for their last home game against Salisbury that the club had been placed under an embargo.

It followed a lengthy delay in the National League approving the change of ownership at Ebbsfleet, which is still yet to be ratified.

But the Fleet have confirmed that the embargo - which started on Monday, October 20 - would be lifted last Wednesday, although the National League website has still to confirm the change at the time of writing.

A statement from Ebbsfleet said: "Following on from our update regarding the transfer of ownership and subsequent HMRC liabilities, which led to a transfer embargo being placed on the club, we can now update supporters as follows.

"We stated at the time this would be addressed imminently and today we can confirm all liabilities have been settled in full as promised.

"We received written confirmation from the league on Wednesday October 29th, that this would see the embargo lifted."

The embargo meant the Fleet were unable to make any new signings.

It means they can now replace departing goalkeeper Mark Cousins, who retires after Tuesday night's National League South match with Maidstone to take up a coaching role at Ipswich's academy.
