Speculation around Emma Raducanu’s Wimbledon participation has intensified after the teen missed a practice session. With just two days to go until her opening round match with Alison Van Uytvanck, Friday's high-profile pre-planned session was one of the last opportunities for the US Open champion to sharpen her skills before her second appearance at the All-England Club.
For the first time in history players have been allowed to practice on the main show courts before the tournament begins. Raducanu was due to play some practice points with former Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza for 45 minutes yesterday afternoon on No. 1 court.
But the tenth seed’s team informed officials at late notice that she would not be walking out into the arena. Raducanu’s team say they will provide an update on her condition this morning. She was replaced by Yuriko Miyazaki, who now represents Britain having previously done so for Japan. She beamed with pride as she took a golden opportunity to share the court with a high calibre player.
