Emma Raducanu at risk of missing Wimbledon after further setback
Emma Raducanu’s Wimbledon fate hangs in the balance with the Brit having completed just 33 minutes of competitive tennis on grass so far this summer.
The British number one has endured a miserable season with injuries so far and her woes continued at the Nottingham Open earlier this month.
Playing in her first grass-court tournament of the season, at the event she made her professional debut at last year, the US Open champion was forced to withdraw after just seven games of her first-round match with a side problem.
Subsequently, Raducanu pulled out of the Rothesay Classic in Birmingham and underwent a scan on the injury.
While the results showed no significant injury, it appears the Brit is still some way from being at full fitness again.
The 19-year-old was expected to compete at the Rothesay International Eastbourne next week, in order to get some much-needed match practice before Wimbledon.
However, the teenager is yet to request a wildcard and it seems her team are reluctant for her to aggravate the injury again.
The Brit has until 4pm on Friday to request entry into the main draw at Eastbourne, otherwise, she will head into Wimbledon with next to no matches under her belt.
It’s been a difficult first season on the WTA Tour for the British prodigy, and the teenager has struggled to adapt to the physical demands of playing on a weekly basis.
At the Australian Open, Raducanu suffered blisters on her hand and succumbed to a three-set defeat to Danka Kovinic in the second round.
Then, at the Abierto Zapopan, she suffered a hip injury and later withdrew from the Monterrey Open.
A back problem saw her retire in her first-round match at the Italian Open, while the same issue also appeared to trouble her at
