Emergency services scrambled to scene after car smashes into tram

Emergency services were called after a car smashed into a tram near Salford Quays.

The crash happened on Trafford Road, near the Salford Quays tram stop, at around 11pm last night (Thursday). Police officers and fire crews were called to the scene.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said no-one was injured on the tram. The driver of the vehicle also escaped without serious injuries.

The road was closed off after the crash. A cordon was put in place around the tram.

Pictures taken at the scene showed several emergency services vehicles responding to the incident. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 11pm on Thursday 21 July 2022, we received reports of an RTC between a car and a tram on Trafford Road, Salford.

"It is believed no one was injured on the tram with emergency services attending to assist at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was also not seriously injured.

"We can confirm the road was blocked for a short while overnight but the incident has now been dealt with."

The Manchester Evening News has also contacted Metrolink for a comment.
