Electrician denies any involvement in shooting as he was 'sh****** myself at that time'

An electrician said he was 'sh****** myself' as his brother fired a gun in the street after the pair had been 'robbed'. Alex Whelan, 27, who ran his own electrical firm, told a jury that he had no idea that his older sibling Daniel Whelan had a gun.

Prosecutors allege that 32-year-old Daniel Whelan opened fire in Oldham in revenge, at a car he believed belonged to those involved in an attack on them earlier. Daniel Whelan has admitted firing a gun but claimed he only wanted to 'scare' the occupants of the car.

He missed the suspected car and instead hit a vehicle being driven by a father out with his young daughter. No-one was injured, but he later discovered a bullet hole in the back of his vehicle.
