Elden Ring is a vast open world but one of the first big bosses you come across is remarkably difficult to beat, and you’ll definitely want to take him on.

As soon as you enter Limgrave, the very first location in the game, you’ll see the Tree Sentinel, a huge boss riding a massive horse.

If you so wish, you can walk down and take him on, but you’re likely to get a very interesting introduction to the way that From Software games work; you’ll die a fair few times, especially if you’re still at your character’s base level.

The very first thing that you absolutely have to do, to have any hope of beating the Tree Sentinel, is to get Torrent. You could fight him on foot, it is possible, but it makes the fight much, much harder.

He’s your spectral steed, and you’ll pick him up at one of the very first sites of grace you visit in the game.

Once you’ve got Torrent, it’s a lot easier to fight the mounted bosses, or the dragons, in the game, especially if you also get some Rowa Raisins, which are used to heal Torrent. If he dies, he can be resummoned by using
