Eight-year-old boy left 'screaming in agony' after breaking collarbone at kids playscheme

An eight-year-old boy was left with a broken collarbone and "screaming in pain" while under the care of playscheme staff, according to an outraged dad.

Neil Watts said his son Alfie received the injuries during an incident with another child at Trelogan Community Centre in North Wales. Mr Watts said he got a phone call in July from a member of staff who asked if he could pick up Alfie who was crying around half an hour into the two-hour session, North Wales Live reports.

However, when he turned up to the playscheme, he claims staff were unable to explain how Alfie received his injuries. Mr Watts said: "When I got there I could hear him screaming in pain and he was sitting there with an ice pack on his collarbone."

He continued: "He was clearly in absolute agony and I was trying to calm him down but my priority at that point was to get him checked out. When I spoke to the supervisors they said they hadn't actually seen what had happened because both members of staff were tidying up."

After picking up Alfie, Mr Watts took him to A&E where x-rays revealed he had a clean break on his collarbone. Mr Watts added: "When we went to the hospital they said the staff should've called an ambulance straight away.

"The supervisors hadn't given him any form of first aid, apart from the ice pack, which I find very concerning." Following this, Mr Watts contacted Flintshire Council, which runs the playscheme, but says he is yet to receive an explanation.

A council spokesperson said: "The council takes any concerns extremely seriously and is currently investigating this incident to ascertain exactly what happened."
