Eddie Howe warning to Newcastle players despite escaping dropzone

Eddie Howe has urged his players to keep their feet on the ground - despite climbing out of the relegation zone for the first time since the club was sold.

The club's Middle East consortium celebrated wildly as a 3-1 win over Everton hauled Newcastle away from the bottom three.

But Howe is keen to keep his players focused and said today: "I think there were some very good elements to the performance.

"I still think we’ve got a lot of work to do, but the most important thing from us at this moment in time is that we’re seeing the commitment from the players."

There were so many heroes on the night and Howe was asked about the in-form winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

He replied: "Allan was his magical best last night.

"He’s such a difficult player to play against when he’s in that mood.

"I was really pleased with his individual performance."

But there was only one winner when it came to man of the match, Howe reflected: "Kieran, I thought, was first class.

"It’s not just his performance on the pitch, but also the way he conducts himself and leads the group.

"His voice in the changing room, he is so respected already, and then he’s producing levels of performance like that.

"I’m really pleased with him."
