Allan Saint-Maximin has sparked hopes that he will be fit for this weekend's trip to Brentford, after posting a video of himself working out.
The Frenchman missed the 1-1 draw with West Ham after picking up an injury against Aston Villa with Toon head coach Eddie Howe describing it as a 'knock.'
Fans were left devastated with the news of Saint-Maximin's absence, but his teammates managed to secure a valuable point in the fight for survival.
Jacob Murphy replaced Saint-Maximin and put in a decent shift against top-four chasing West Ham.
Speaking about Saint-Maximin's injury, Howe told reporters: "He got a kick on his calf last week and it was too sore to play today - it was a late call, we hoped he might make the game but he didn't."
