Ebbsfleet United manager Josh Wright reacts to 4-0 home win over Hampton & Richmond as National League South play-off race goes to final game of the season
Ebbsfleet boss Josh Wright hopes the club’s fans have enjoyed the season – whatever happens in the next few weeks.
The Fleet’s National League South play-off destiny remains in their own hands after they beat Hampton & Richmond 4-0 on Saturday.
But they need a positive result at leaders Worthing next weekend to guarantee a top-seven finish, although if other teams also slip up then Wright’s men could yet see their season extended.
“This football club, home and away, didn’t win enough games before this season,” said Wright.
“We know what last season was, how difficult the season before that was and all of a sudden, I'm not sure what our win ratio is here this season, but I think we've only lost three in the league.
“We've won a lot of cup games as well. We were beaten by Forest Green unlucky with a division above and our win ratio must be very, very high in terms of at home and by the way, our away form is not bad either now and we've had a decent season.
“We've had a good season and I want to thank the best fans around. I hope I've put smiles on your faces and that's not just me or my staff, that's the players.
“What I want you to know is we've given absolutely everything that we can and this job means more than anything to me in my life.
“My wife's out there (on the pitch), I'm watching (our) two boys run around in the 18-yard box and she's been through hell this season because she's worn it all.
“I take this home with me, I live it, I breathe it, I sleep it, I eat it, I drink it and that's what I've put into this group and we've got a fantastic group.
“They're giving everything for the badge and everything for the football club and it hasn't all been great all season.
