Ebbsfleet United Josh Wright reacts to 2-2 draw against Enfield Town in National League South

Ebbsfleet boss Josh Wright highlighted his side’s failure to convert their dominance into goals after more late heartache on Tuesday.

The Fleet were denied victory in stoppage time for the third successive National League South match when visitors Enfield Town salvaged a 2-2 draw.

There was an element of fortune about the late equaliser with the goal later being awarded as an own goal following a long throw-in.

But Wright admitted there were other shortcomings that contributed to a disappointing evening at Stonebridge Road in a game that Ebbsfleet dominated for large periods.

“We've fallen short and we've given teams an opportunity to get a point against us when it should be three points for us,” said Wright.

“Three draws should have been three wins and that is by not killing the game off at one end with domination.

“When you get that first goal, that's when you're probably at your most vulnerable in terms of when you've just scored. It's about seeing that next five minutes through, whether it be getting through to half-time at 1-0 or going to get that second goal.

“Then when we got our goal after pure dominance in the second half.

“We've just been undone by a scrappy long throw and it comes off one of our own players into the back of the net.

“It hurts because it isn't just once. One hurts. But to happen twice and then three times is really, really painful.

“We've got to do enough over the 95 minutes to kill that game off. By that, I mean go and get another goal because if you get another goal, that doesn't happen.

“Ultimately, it comes down to either not sticking another one in the net at the other end or not seeing it through by defending your box.”
