Ebbsfleet United 2 Dorking Wanderers 1 match report: National League South win thanks to goals from Ben Chapman and Dominic Samuel

Ebbsfleet maintained their unbeaten home record in National League South after defeating Dorking on Saturday.

An entertaining game saw the Fleet come from behind to eventually dominate the final half-hour and pick up three deserved points.

Ebbsfleet were unchanged for the first time this season with keeper Gio Bellagambi keeping his place between the sticks after Mark Cousins’ injury-time error cost them two points against Eastbourne a fortnight ago.

It was an open half with chances at either hand. Fleet’s inswinging corners asked plenty of questions of Dorking keeper Harrison Foulkes, who did well to punch a number clear underneath his own bar.

Dorking took just four minutes to break on the hosts, Jimmy Muitt exchanging passes with Jason Prior before crossing for Alfie Rutherford, whose low shot was saved by Bellagambi.

The Fleet keeper did well to keep out a deflected Muitt cross after an error by Lennon Peake on the edge of his own area.

Ben Chapman, back in his central midfield role, got the better of Brennan Camp on 23 minutes and played in Aaron Cosgrave, who cut inside but lacked power as Foulkes was able to make a comfortable save.

The risk-reward of Fleet’s willingness to play out from the back nearly turned into a big reward on 28 minutes. Charlie Seaman advanced to the halfway line before playing in Gene Kennedy, whose right-foot shot was kept out by the legs of Foulkes.

The resulting corner was only punched as far as Jake Hessenthaler on the edge of the box and his header back into the danger area found Kwesi Appiah, whose hooked effort was cleared off the line.

Dorking then broke with speed again as Rutherford played in Dennon Lewis but Bellagambi saved with his outstretched leg.
