East Kilbride YM go goal crazy on way to league title as they chase treble

EKYM fired in 11 goals on their Greater Glasgow Premier League trophy day as manager Graeme Robertson Jnr insisted his side are hungry for a treble.

The Kirktonholme outfit won their division last month without kicking a ball when opponents Erskine forfeited the penultimate match of the league campaign.

And that meant YM were presented with the trophy on Saturday, May 21 following an emphatic 11-0 win over Belleaire to book their place in the semi-finals of Bobby Thomson Challenge Cup.

Top scorer Kyle Rankin netted six times to take his tally to 55 for the season, while David Thomson hit a hat-trick with Max Foster and Fraser Robertson also on target.

The club are also in the last four of the President’s Cup and boss Robertson said: “It’s been a great season so far. We are in two semi-finals still so the treble is the next aim.

“This wasn’t the way we wanted to win the league, but I’m confident we would have won the game and our final game in a weeks’ time anyway.”

Robertson is in his sixth year in charge and has taken the club from the fourth division to the Premier League title.

And he beamed: “It’s quite an achievement. We’ve gone from the very bottom all the way to the very top.

“The challenge now is to defend it next season and that’s always the hardest part.

“We’ve got a great team. Having a striker who has scored 55 goals always helps, but I think because we’ve been together for a few years now there’s a great team spirit.”
