East Kilbride Thistle come back from 4-1 down and 94th minute goal to draw bonkers 10-goal thriller
Aaron Connolly insists he never doubted his East Kilbride Thistle side as they pulled off a miraculous comeback in a 5-5 draw with Newmains United.
The Jags trailed 4-1 in their West of Scotland Fourth Division opener on Saturday, before hauling themselves back to 4-4.
And even when they fell 5-4 behind in the 94th minute, they still found the resolve to equalise again right at the death.
After an hour of play at Victoria Park, goals from Kris Jarvie and Dan McGowan, plus a Kyle Fleming double had Newmains in control against Thistle, who had netted through Ally MacDonald in the first half.
But three goals in the space of 20 minutes, courtesy of Mitchell Rooney, Michael Blues and Ben Alston, hauled the Jags level at 4-4.
It looked like all their efforts were in vain when Dan Bonnar struck for Newmains in the fourth minute of stoppage time, but Thistle raced up the pitch from the re-start, won a corner and grabbed an unlikely equaliser through Andrew Mooney to round off a breathtaking match.
Shell-shocked gaffer Connolly said: "I'm still trying to digest it all. It was one of those crazy games that sometimes happens in football.
"We've given ourselves a mountain to climb in both halves, losing two goals in the first 10 minutes of the first half and two goals in the first part of the second half.
"There was some really slack defending from us at times and we got punished for them.
"We are 4-1 down with just under an hour played but the character we've shown to rally back from that and get it to 4-4 was great, and we would have been good value to be ahead at that point.
"We reacted well to what was a horrible situation to get ourselves into.
"Then we concede with a minute left in the game, but we go up the pitch and get a
