East Kilbride boss disappointed with Stirling Uni draw, despite playing with 10 men for an hour

Mick Kennedy was disappointed his East Kilbride side failed to beat Stirling University – despite being down to 10 men for almost an hour of Saturday’s 1-1 draw.

But the Kilby gaffer hailed a fantastic performance from his side, insisting they belied their numerical disadvantage in a dominant display.

Ally Roy’s straight red card after 36 minutes left EK with an uphill battle and their task became more difficult on the stroke of half-time when Cammy Robertson fired the Students in front.

However, the visitors came out for the second half with their tails up, and a stunning strike from Andy Stirling after 62 minutes provided the equaliser.

A last minute goalmouth scramble almost gave EK a winner, but they had to settle for a point after starting the campaign with back-to-back wins.

Kennedy said: “The boys did really well and when you take everything into consideration, being down to 10 men for almost an hour, I’d have taken a point.

“But I think when we reflect on how much we dominated the game, we are disappointed not to have won it. It’s just one of those things.

“We went down to 10 men around the 30 minute mark and at that point we were well in control of the game.”

“Following the sending off, Stirling Uni scored on the stroke of half time, but in the second half we just totally dominated them from the first whistle to the last whistle.

“I think anyone at the game could see our levels. It was a fantastic performance and you’d never have thought we were down to 10 men in a million years.

“I’m delighted with the boys’ resilience to come back into the game and take control of it, and their general fitness as well.

“It has been a strong start, taking everything into account, so it is all very positive at the moment.”
