'Easily done' - Manchester United theory emerges after Erik ten Hag holds contract talks

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been warned that he is forcing himself into a corner by offering Erik ten Hag a new contract at Old Trafford.

Up until last week, Ten Hag's future at United was in serious doubt as the Reds conducted their end-of-season review. INEOS contacted Thomas Tuchel regarding taking over from the Dutchman, but the decision was eventually made to stick with United's current boss.

In his role as a pundit on Dutch TV for England's Euro 2024 opener against Serbia, Ten Hag explained that discussions over his new deal are underway. "We have had good discussions with each other, various topics have been discussed," he said.

"The conclusion is that we will continue together and that they will extend my contract. We still have to reach an agreement on that."

Reacting to this news on talkSPORT, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan believes that United are making an unwise decision extending Ten Hag's deal and questioned why the process was being held up.

He said: "All that [new contract] will be for me is a bigger compensation payment for when they walk him out of the door.

"I believe that it will end up with an outcome which is they are paying him more money because in six months he will come up short again. Because I don't think I have seen anything in him over two years that tells me he won't.

"It will be interesting to see what he means by it's not easily done (the contract) because the next part of that conversation had to be: ‘Well what does that mean?’
