Eamonn Holmes blasts BBC over Match Of The Day as he makes demand over Gary Lineker's job
Television presenter Eamonn Holmes has fumed over Gary Lineker's exit from Match Of The Day.
Following the announcement that Lineker will be departing the BBC show at the end of the season, it has also been confirmed that he will stay with the broadcaster to lead the World Cup coverage in 2026.
The internet has been abuzz with discussions about Lineker's potential replacement, with names like Alex Scott, Gabby Logan, Mark Chapman, and Dan Walker being tossed into the mix, but no official decision has been made yet.
On a segment with GB News, when one of his fellow presenters suggested "I still think Eamonn should have got the gig myself," his co-host Isabel chimed in to add: "Oh you would have been brilliant, yeah, nobody knows more about football."
However, Eamonn expressed strong opinions on the matter, delivering a heated critique. He fumed: "See they also do this ridiculous thing in the BBC, it's always been the case, try and get a younger audience. So what does that mean? Get a younger host? And younger people do not watch television. So why are they wasting their time?"
Isabel's comment: "They do with Match Of The Day, don't they? They watch it in bed on a Sunday with a hangover," was met with Eamonn's sharp retort: "They watch it on their phones and on their devices. The best thing about Match Of The Day is the music."
Earlier in the week, it had been confirmed that Lineker would indeed leave Match Of The Day. He would still present the MOTD Top Ten podcast and his venture, The Rest is Football podcast, will now feature on BBC Sounds, reports the Express.
