Dwight Yorke pinpoints reason behind Rasmus Hojlund's Premier League struggles at Manchester United

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes Rasmus Hojlund could be struggling with the pace of Premier League football.

Hojlund is yet to score in eight league appearances since joining United from Atalanta over the summer. The 20-year-old has been short of quality service from his teammates but also missed a string of decent chances to open his account - he also had a goal disallowed against Brighton.

That dry run is in stark contrast to Hojlund's Champions League form, his early brace against former club FC Copenhagen on Wednesday taking the total to five goals in four games. The United No.11 has been electric in Europe and got the goals to match his impact.

Yorke enjoyed success both domestically and in the Champions League at United and the former striker believes the 'slightly slower pace' of continental competition suits Hojlund better.

"As a striker, you’re always going to be judged on the number of goals so it’s fantastic for him," Yorke told BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast of Hojlund's midweek brace against FC Copenhagen. "You’re always going to need a striker who should be getting you anywhere in the region of 20-25 goals.

"He’s got off to a decent start although I still think he struggles with the Premier League, maybe the demands of the game. It’s different to the Champions League, where it’s a little bit more tactical and you can play at a slightly slower pace.

"He seems to fit into the Champions League so that record is really good. When you’re playing a struggling team that doesn’t create as much for you, then you’re always going to struggle."
