Dundee vs Rangers pitch inspection announced as torrential Tayside rain puts Premiership clash at Dens Park in doubt

Dundee's clash with Rangers is facing a FURTHER pitch inspection after initial checks.

The Dark Blues confirmed in a short online statement that they had contacted the SPFL over the surface at their home park with checks made at 9.15am this morning ahead of the lunchtime kick-off. But now after an initial look over by a local referee, he asked the SPFL for an extension with match official Don Robertson on his way to do his own checks. That SECOND look over will now take place at 10.15am - with the Light Blues offering sympathises to the travelling fans over the situation.

They wrote on Twitter: "A further inspection of the pitch will take place at 10:15am. Rangers sympathises with our supporters as we appreciate many will already be en-route to Dundee. As soon as a decision has been made on the game, we will communicate." A Dundee update added: "The match referee will do a second pitch inspection at 10.15am when he arrives at the ground. We will update once the final decision has been made."

It's a big game for both clubs should it get the go ahead. Philippe Clement and his troops are out to bounce back from their Europa League exit to Benfica by leapfrogging Celtic back to the league summit and restoring their two point lead after Brendan Rodgers and Co defeated St Johnstone at Parkhead on Saturday. For Dundee, they have top six ambitions in mind and they know causing an upset and bagging the three points would see them take over Hibs in sixth spot ahead of the international break with just THREE games after the return before the league split.
