Dundee-bound Charlie Reilly hopes to sign off at Albion Rovers with League Two safety

Charlie Reilly is heading for the top flight with Premiership-bound Dundee next season – but he’s determined to sign off at Albion Rovers by keeping them in the bottom tier of the SPFL.

The talented midfielder racked up his 24th goal of the season on Saturday, adding to Joe Bevan’s opener, to help Rovers upset champions Stirling Albion 2-0.

It wasn’t enough to avoid the pyramid play-off, though, and Rovers now face a two leg shootout with Spartans for their SPFL survival.

Reilly, who has been nominated for the PFA League Two Player of the Year, knows his future lies elsewhere after agreeing to join the Championship title winners, but wants to give something back to the club that gave him the platform to earn a big move.

He said: “I want to end my time here on a high, but so do the rest of the boys as well.

“I will be leaving at the end of the season but I’ll only think about that when my time at Albion is up.

“I’ve still got two games to go and that is the most important thing to me right now.

“I want to keep the club up because I owe a lot to people here and they have not been down there, so hopefully we get the result we need to survive.

”It’s a massive time for the club. It’s the same fans you see here all the time and you know them yourself because they turn up all the time. It means so much to them.

“They turn up, home and away, and it is hard for them right now.

“We’ve been down at the bottom end of the table for most of the season so we owe them something against Spartans.”

Rovers went into the game knowing they simply had to win and hope that nearest rivals Bonnyrigg Rose failed take anything at home to Elgin City to see them survive on goal difference.
