Dundee 6 Airdrie 1: Dreadful Diamonds defending at set-plays irks McCabe in cup exit

Airdrie player-boss Rhys McCabe blasted his side's defending in Dundee and admits their work at set-pieces has to be addressed after they shipped four of their six goals from corners and free-kicks.

Ten-man Diamonds were dumped out of the Premier Sports League Cup following a day to forget in the City of Discovery saw them fail to bounce back from last week's 5-0 humbling at Ayr in the Championship.

Premiership Dundee had a two-goal lead at the break thanks to goals from Seb Palmer-Houlden and Jordan McGhee at corner kicks, before Scott Tiffoney added a third shortly after the break.

McCabe wanted his side to show more "personality" in the face of adversity and felt his side didn't cover themselves in glory with their defending at set plays.

He said: "I think it is difficult when you go down to 10 men. I'd probably ask the players to show a bit more personality.

"It is easy to go under. They are a good side and we know that, but I actually thought in the second half we came out on the front foot, very positively, but it was similar to Ayr in terms of them going up the park and getting the third goal - which is obviously a sucker punch.
